In 1987, the mid-cut and low-cut versions were released under the name "AIR TRAINER". Designed by Tinker Hatfield. This model was developed as a training shoe for workouts with a strap to enhance the unity of the forefoot and the shoe. This model attracted worldwide attention not as a training shoe but on the tennis court. In 1986, a sample of the development stage was mistakenly sent to John McEnroe, and McEnroe wore the "AIR TRAINER" in a game because it fit him best out of the many models available. He then won the 1988 Japan Open wearing the "AIR TRAINER". This shoe is the origin of the series, which gained recognition after McEnroe wore it and had a major impact on the development of the TRAINER series.
This model uses a design inspired by the Japanese streetwear scene of the 2000s. This special edition is made of high-quality leather with a crocodile texture and has Tokyo's area code "TYO 03" embossed on the heel.
